Whether it’s an outdoor maternity session in Houston or in my studio in The Heights, make it a priority to document this part of your journey. For 40 weeks (give or take a few days/weeks) you have been carrying and nurturing your baby. You’ve gone from longing for your bump to grow to feeling as if you couldn’t possibly grow anymore. Those last few days and weeks will feel like a lifetime waiting to meet your little one. I promise it’s worth the wait!
But how do you decide what type of maternity session is right for you? There are definitely a few key differences and reasons that you may prefer one over the other. Here are three reasons to consider an outdoor maternity session.
Weather Is Nice That Time of Year in Houston
Depending on the time of year, an outdoor session may be perfect and worth taking advantage of. Personally, I love the spring and late fall for outdoor maternity sessions in Houston. The grass is nice and green, it’s not too hot and you cannot beat the sunsets.
Note that these two times of the year, especially the Fall, are our busiest times and you need to book your session in advance. Maternity sessions are done between 30-34 weeks!
You Want More Color in Your Maternity Photos
Most outdoor maternity sessions are going to take place in one of the local fields I use or the beach if you’re able to time it with our annual seaside sessions. Naturally, this is going to bring a lot more color into your photos- greenery from the fields or cotton candy skies from the beach. We also tend to bring in a little more color with the wardrobe selection as well.
You Want a More Family/Couple Focused Session
While we are still able to take maternity photos with your family in the studio, it’s often a little more intimate and focused on Mom. If you have toddlers (or a husband more comfortable outdoors) then being outside with more space to play and explore can keep them engaged longer. It’s a little less formal and we document more candid moments.
If need some inspiration, here’s a beautiful outdoor maternity session we did at Memorial Park in Houston during the Fall. We’re documenting this sweet family from bump to the first birthday!
