It’s no secret around here that I love photographing maternity sessions, especially in my studio in The Heights. Every Mom, family and session is different, and there’s so much anticipation and excitement that comes with it. Having three babies of my own, I’ve been there. I know the mix of emotions, and it’s not lost on me what a privilege and honor it is to be able to walk alongside you in these early years as you grow your family.
Maternity sessions can also be really adaptable to what your goals are for your session. Some moms choose to have their maternity session be all about them and baby, while others have Dad and/or the entire family join. For this family, Mom wanted to the session to be largely focused on the family and her relationship with her daughter, Arden, before big brother arrives.
Multiple Looks for Studio Maternity Session
We started off with Mom having her hair and makeup done, followed by choosing wardrobe for her and Arden. Because we are in the studio, it makes it a lot easier to choose multiple looks. The first dress Mom chose for their family portraits is one of my favorites. It’s perfect for bringing in a bit of blue for baby boy but also keeping it feminine.
After we did most of their family portraits, Mom and Arden both changed into new dresses for their photos together. Mom wore a soft pink dress with a Swiss dot overlay, and Arden wore a white dress with the sweetest little details on the sleeves. We finished up the session with a more intimate look for Mom, and Arden wore a little ruffle diaper cover.
I love that Mom wanted to not only celebrate her pregnancy but document this time with her first baby, her baby girl. The end result were beautiful photos that they will all be able to cherish for years to come. Before long, Arden will step into her new roll as big sister. I cannot wait to see her with her baby brother!
