For a lot of moms, a maternity session is something they struggle with. Some just don’t feel like themselves. Others don’t want the focus to be on them. Then, for some, it’s simply because they want to prioritize the newborn session. I get it and each of those feelings are valid. However, I would encourage you to think about special it will be to be able to look back on that season years from now when the discomfort is a distant memory. Too often client’s will come to me later and tell me they wish they had done both a maternity and newborn session. As hard as we may try, you just can’t get those days and memories back.

Simplicity Maternity Session

That’s one reason why I love our simplicity maternity sessions. It’s a great choice for a maternity session when you don’t want to skip it, but want to focus most of your budget on the newborn session. It’s a shorter studio session that gives you a glimpse into the Fresh Light experience. This can be really good if you’re a new client. It gives you an opportunity to get to know us before coming in for your newborn session.

Without fail, after every simplicity maternity session I photograph, moms will tell me they are so glad they did it. I say it all the time, but you’ll never regret taking the time to slow down, take a little time for yourself, and celebrate this season you’re in. And that’s exactly what this beautiful mama did and I am so glad because her portraits turned out stunning! She chose two dresses that have the most beautiful, feminine details and coordinated well with each other.

Baby Girl’s Newborn Session

Just a few short months later, Mom and Dad came back into the studio for their baby girl’s newborn session. It’s never lost on me what a privilege it is to get to be the one to photograph your baby and your first family portraits. I think I feel that even more strongly when it’s first-time parents bringing their baby into my studio. Everything is new, you’re discovering who you are as parents, and trusting the most precious gift you’ve been given with me.

This baby girl was so sweet. She loves to be swaddled and snuggled up in the blankets and I took so many detail photos! Everything from her dark hair to her tiny little fingers and toes, cute little lips, and how she fit perfectly in Mom and Dad’s arms. Those are all the things that we spend hours obsessing over and all the things we will want to remember.

Photography allows us that. It also allows us to recall memories and feel those same emotions. Then, when our children are older, we’ll be able to tangibly share all of their baby stories with them.

This sweet girl will have a gallery wall to look at every day as she grows up and be reminded of those early days as a family. She’ll see her parents holding her, her Mama holding her tight on her chest, and her Daddy giving her the sweetest little nose kisses. She’ll see and feel the love surrounding her.
