As a Houston mom and family photographer, I know how quickly kids grow. One day they’re learning to crawl, and the next they’re running all over the place! That’s why so many parents want to capture these moments with family portraits. But finding outfits for everyone can be a challenge. Don’t worry, I’ve got some easy tips to help you dress your family for a successful photo session.

Stick to Neutrals and Pastels

Neutrals like creamy whites, soft grays, and warm beiges create a classic look that doesn’t distract from the focus of the photos—your family. Pastels such as blush pinks, sky blues, and mint greens add a soft, pleasant touch without being too bold. These colors work well in Houston’s natural settings, like the trails of Memorial Park or the beaches of Galveston.

Incorporate Nature-Inspired Patterns

Houston’s natural beauty is great inspiration for your outfits. Organic patterns, like florals, can add interesting detail to your photos. A floral dress for mom or a shirt with a subtle leaf print for dad can tie your look to the surroundings, whether we’re shooting outdoors or in our Heights studio.

Texture Adds Interest

Mixing different fabrics can make your outfits more visually interesting. A cable-knit sweater, a tulle skirt, or a linen shirt can make your outfits stand out. These textures look great on camera and can also keep little ones interested during the shoot.

Choose from Our Studio Wardrobe for Family Photos for FREE

Now, here’s something that’ll make you breathe a sigh of relief –our clients don’t need to shop for their family photoshoot outfits! That’s right. Our studio has an extensive wardrobe collection that’s FREE for you to use. With over 500 pieces ranging from women’s dresses in sizes XS to XXL, kids’ outfits from newborn to size 10, and men’s shirts from S to XXXL, we’ve got your family covered (literally!).

Our carefully curated collection takes the guesswork out of styling. We’ve selected pieces that photograph beautifully, complementing a variety of skin tones and body types. From flowing maxi dresses that make you feel like a goddess to adorable rompers that let your little ones move freely, our client wardrobe has something for everyone.

Pulling It All Together

The main goal is to feel comfortable and confident so your family’s love and connection can be the focus of the photos. Whether you use our studio wardrobe or your own clothes, make sure everyone feels like themselves.

As you get ready for your family photo session, remember that your outfits should highlight, not overshadow, the special moments we capture.

With these outfit tips and our support, you’ll be ready to create beautiful, timeless family portraits.
