Houston Newborn Photography
“The days are long, but the years are short.”
I can’t tell you how much that cliched phrase rings true to me, especially this week. The days and nights with a new baby are busy, yet monotonous.
Feed, change, soothe, sleep is on repeat in your head, a seemingly never-ending cycle of intensive care for this new little life. The early morning hours drag on as you look at the clock, constantly figuring out how many hours you would get to sleep if she would just fall asleep now. And then somewhere along the way, probably when you weren’t evening noticing it, she grows up.
She laughs and plays like a child, not the baby you once knew. She runs ahead, only sometimes turning to look back for you. She drops your hand as soon as she’s done crossing the street, knowing that she is past the danger of the cars. You don’t remember when the last time she fell asleep in your arms was, and pray that it happens at least once more so you can remember to remember it. It feels as though a year slips by faster than the time is used to take her to fall asleep at 2 am.
The feeling is so bittersweet, children growing up. It exciting to watch them chase down their independence, but still heartbreaking to know they will never need quite as much as they used to. In our family, we are getting ready to start the process over again, welcoming our 3rd baby in March next year. I promise myself each time that I will savor this one little days more, but I know the truth is that we can never savor it enough, because the will never stay little long enough.
If you are expecting a new baby in the Houston area, I would love to talk to you about creating a collection of natural and organic maternity and newborn portraits.
