Some people may say they don’t have favorites, but I’m not one of them. I have a favorite child, favorite husband, favorite dog, favorite mom, favorite dad, and a favorite oldest and youngest sister.
(Yes, I realize that I’m kinda cheating here.)
So of course, when it come to people in the newborn photography biz, I have favorites too. I wanted to take some time to point them out to you so they can be your favorites also! And what is extra great is that these are all small mom-owned businesses, and many are local to the Kingwood and Humble area.
Things to Wear
Style Your Fashion -Michelle makes adorable headbands, tutus, and bowties. I have collection from her shop already that all my clients are welcome to use, but grab up some for yourself too! I LOVE a cute headband with older babies and littel girls! Michelle lives in Humble, so you can save on shipping. Bonus!
Mangomum -Adrienne makes the softest and best hats for babies and toddlers. Nearly every hat in my stash comes from her. The booties and blankets she sells would also make great shower gifts.
Joe Bangles -Custom handmade baby and childrens’ clothes?? Yes, please. Nothing livens up your pictures like the perfect wardrobe, and Joe Bangles has the corner on that market. Katrina lives in Houston too, and I love supporting other local moms!
Merry-Go-Round – This Kingwood brick and mortar store is a great place to find clothes and shoes for a steal. Sometimes the best outfits are the pre-loved variety. They also have Smart Mommies meeting to hang out with other mamas.
Pickles and Ice Cream – Seriously the best and most fashionable maternity clothes in Houston. When you want to rock out your maternity photo session, this is where you need to shop.
Things to Do
The Mudpie Company – Pick a piece of pottery and go to town. This a great place to make crafts and gifts. They will do your baby’s footprint on a tile with their birth date for free!
KFBC MOPS – Need some mommy time midweek? MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) is a great excuse to get to meet and hang out with some other moms in the Kingwood area. They meet every other Wednesday during the school year from 9-11:30. There is even free childcare for you while you are there!
Macaroni Kid – A weekly e-newsletter that highlights all the great activities going on for kids and families in North Houston. Just sign up and get them in your inbox every Thursday.
The Berry Bar – You scream! We scream! We all scream for…… frozen yogurt? If you haven’t tried one of the many new frozen yogurt shops, you are seriously missing out. The Berry Bar is my favorite both for the froyo and the location (aka: right on my drive home). There are over in Kings Harbor by the lake. Hit them up select Fridays during the summer and enjoy a free concert too.
Pregnancy Resources
Reunion Birth Center – I had my daughter at Reunion last August, and I cannot say enough wonderful things about my midwives, Polly and Janet. Get this? I actually enjoyed giving birth. Is your mind blown or what? If you are expecting and whatsoever interested in natural birth, go talk to them. You’ll just might become a nut like me 🙂
Hypnobabies – Also on the natural birth train, Katherine with Hypnobabies. It may sound a little wackadoodle on paper, but I had a 9 pound baby with no drugs and I give complete credit to the Hypnobabies/midwife/birth center trifecta. Plus, it is so relaxing, and what expectant mom couldn’t stand for a little more relaxation in her life?
Premier Baby Planning – If you are feeling overwhelmed by all the things to do when you are pregnant, check out Premier Baby Planning. They can take care of everything from helping you choose the right stroller to setting up the nursery.
So there you have it. My favorite places for moms and babies in the Kingwood and greater Houston area. Did I miss your favorite? Share it with me below!
